So it’s starting to feel like this election may never actually end, that we will just be caught up in some bizarre “groundhog day” type event where everyday we wake up and realise we are no closer to the end of the constant news coverage and overwrought stump speeches. With Obama having a huge lead too I’m afraid it could disappear.

Oh yah, then there’s, “Joe the Plumber.” The archetypal white working-man that McCain has trumpted as his new mascot. The guy asked Obama if he bought the plumbing business he worked for, would Obama raise his taxes. Obama explained to him that only if he made over $250,000, only the portion of income over that amount, and would cut costs for him elsewhere. McCain used Joe in the debate as his main talking point, now Joe the Plumber is national news, paraded around as the face of McCain campaign. The truth is that Joe isn’t a plumber, or named Joe, or even going to earn close to $250,000. His name is Samuel and couldn’t afford to buy the plumbing business anyway. Yet McCain yells “What about Joe the Plumber?”
“Joe the Plumber,” will be better off under Obama’s tax plan. Yet “Joe,” is also a bit racist, and hasn’t even paid his taxes in a while. Another useless distraction by McCain.
STUPID NEWS
So apparently Ohio is confused about who sex offender laws are supposed to protect. A 15 year old girl sent nude pictures of herself to her friends, using one of those camera phones that parents really shouldn’t give their kids. Now she has been arrested, facing child pornography charges AND the possibility of being placed on the sex offenders register. Obviously this girl needs to be disciplined, but surely by her parents? Why is the state invoking laws that prevent adults exploiting children against a child?? It isn’t logical and it doesn’t solve anything. The girl is a foster child so she probably isn’t quite right anyway.
Another point to take into account is that while she was nude, she wasn’t doing anything particularly explicit, so it’s not even pornography. The problem is that child pornography laws are outdated and unable to deal with situatiuons like these, where children have access to technology and can quickly take and send such pictures.
So instead of them protecting children, its actually harming them. Plus signing the sex register for 20 years isn’t going to give her the best start in life. They even re-wrote the Ohio Megans law to make sure juveniles could be prosecuted too! To supposedly counter-act the immoral behaviour starting to permeate society. Yet again another example of draconian laws hurting everybody.
I actually blame the school she goes to. It’s called “Licking Valley High.” Go figure,
