Before rushing to tell me how great the pun is, lets discuss what’s going on in the “Big Apple.”
The picture to the left is the area close to ground zero they want to convert into a mosque. Looks lovely huh? “What on earth is all this about,” you ask? Basically the area has had no attention from the government, nothing has been built. Nada, bugger all. Now some local Muslims want to create a local community centre and make use of the building above. It’s not a classy area, it isn’t being used for much else. Some-how though it ‘s being construed that having a mosque there is some kind of victory for radical terrorists.
Really? Wouldn’t it actually highlight the cultural acceptance of the USA, and show the radical crazies that they’re fighting their own people. What better way for the USA to show how tolerant it is?
BUT WAIT!
The USA isn’t really that tolerant is it? As much as it would love to talk about freedoms of religion, free speech etc, a lot of people think those rights are reserved for white Christians. Fun times. The cable news also make this a way bigger deal than need be, talking about how Republicans can use this. Use what? Racism and intolerance? It’s not about disrespecting the victims, and standing up for them. If that had been the case, something decent would already have been built.
My favourite quote. “People say that building a mosque near ground zero is bad because of all the people they killed, I say having a Macdonalds nearby is disrespectfull, because of all the people they’ve killed.” Lets not forget that in that area are 2 sex shops, a gambling den and strippers. Yay.
