The picture to the left is the area close to ground zero they want to convert into a mosque. Looks lovely huh? “What on earth is all this about,” you ask? Basically the area has had no attention from the government, nothing has been built. Nada, bugger all. Now some local Muslims want to create a local community centre and make use of the building above. It’s not a classy area, it isn’t being used for much else. Some-how though it ‘s being construed that having a mosque there is some kind of victory for radical terrorists.

Really? Wouldn’t it actually highlight the cultural acceptance of the USA, and show the radical crazies that they’re fighting their own people. What better way for the USA to show how tolerant it is?

BUT WAIT!

The USA isn’t really that tolerant is it? As much as it would love to talk about freedoms of religion, free speech etc, a lot of people think those rights are reserved for white Christians. Fun times. The cable news also make this a way bigger deal than need be, talking about how Republicans can use this. Use what? Racism and intolerance? It’s not about disrespecting the victims, and standing up for them. If that had been the case, something decent would already have been built.

My favourite quote. “People say that building a mosque near ground zero is bad because of all the people they killed, I say having a Macdonalds nearby is disrespectfull, because of all the people they’ve killed.” Lets not forget that in that area are 2 sex shops, a gambling den and strippers. Yay.

Shit, I left the oven on!

It had explosions, martial arts, guns, bigger guns, guns so big people explode when they look at them. Terry Crews has one of the best moments in the movie later on involving him and a bug gun. To explain would be to spoil it. This movie was so manly, if shown in a double feature with a chick flick the characters would jump into that movie and skull-f**k the happy couple. That’s an image i’d like to dwell on for a second.

Beret's are back!

Anyone unfamiliar with the movie here it is in a nutshell. First you get big stars; Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren. Then add an 80′s plot; mercernaries take on a banana republic. Use modern special effects to pump up the explosions and away we go.

Stallone writes and directes, he actually does a fair job with the plot. He trys to go beyond the usual cliches, but uses them when they have the opportunity to make things a little more fun. Only downsides might be that some lines get kinda mumbled. The chronology also seems a little uneven and jumpy but that’s nitpicking because you get what you came for. Unabated man-fest, *cough.* The straight kind.

One final thing, for me Lundgren kinda steals the show. Not sure why, he just makes quite the impact.

Yikes!!!….. stuff is still whack. That’s not proper English I know but i feel it conveys my point fairly concisely.

Friday I become a real man, as “Manarchy presents……THE EXPENDABLES!!!” Welcome to the jungleeeeeeeee………rahhhhhhhh

To those not in the know, it’s an action movie containing every action hero you can think of. It contains so much testosterone it has been banned by the Olympic Committee. Lance Armstrong considered watching it before the “Tour De France,” instead of…you know…that thing he never did ever “wink.” The trailer will confirm what I’ m saying.

Makes you want to punch someone, right? Speaking of which…..

Illscarlett came to Kelownaland and rocked the crowd of….20?

I was pretty peeved at lack of turnout. The bassist blamed it on their promotions dude. The show itself was awesome and the guys had a lot of fun onstage, also big-ups to the earlier bands, Nixie and Calgary bands Seventh Rain and Inner City Elegance. Nixie was an all girl electronica band from Kelowna. I was blown away by the show they put on. I had no idea Kelowna had some actual talent, Kevin Moore and friends aside . Their myspace is /nixiemix. Checkout “Awake.”

Seventh Rain were fun and Inner City Elegance  knew how to party. They worked hard to get the crowd pumped and dancing. It probably helped their cause by this time most people were on their way to being wasted. I had a good laugh with their singer, in fact the whole band were stand-up fellas. Check their wicked song below.

Then finally Illscarlett came on and gave it their all. Good crowd banter, decent energy considering crowd size. The tunes were polished, but had a somewhat rawness at the same time. Maybe something to do with playing in Flashbacks. That place just takes everything 3 levels cheaper. I got chatting with those guys too. Apparently the lead singer Alex Norman’s mum is from Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Wicked guys too.

Funny story, I got a lot of attention from two blondes at the end of the night. I was a little bewildered why the only girls in the room were chatting to me when I realised my animated conversation with Alex above had led them to believe I was “with,” the band. Soon as I corrected them they left me quicker then rats off a sinking ship. My ego quickly deflated. Anyways, one of their best songs is below. Really these guys play an awesome mix of reggae, ska, punk and pop. They deserve way more radio play and attention.

Oh and the drummer added me on Facebook. I’m so cool.

It was quite the ocassion, a coming together of so many races, groups, communities and the like to put a man in power who might actually know what he’s doing. Plus he’s black.

Much of the implications this will have, have already been addressed. The future isn’t so rosy yet though, with a failing global economy and plenty of war. There is hope though. Hope that wasn’t there before, but is there now. Lets’s hope it’s not too late.

I’m going to switch to an issue that hasn’t been analysed to death yet, and that’s the banning, by referendum, of gay marriage in California. It seems “the people giveth AND they taketh,” as some drunken englishman in the 1600′s probably said once. The same people who advanced America into  a new age with a new outlook on racial prejudice, decided to deal out a different kind. The homophobic kind.

For me it kind of all comes down to this. People voted to ban gay marriage because the churches told them so. The yes to prop 8 cause was funded by Morons, sorry typo I meant Mormons, from Utah. Why the hell is Utah meddling with California? Keep to your own freaky state and leave the happy people alone. Anyway’s so along with the Mormons, “family first,” and other strange groups who would rather poke their nose in your business than actually do anything constructive, the churches got gay marriage banned, effectively saving their souls, but comdemning homosexuals to further descrimination.

What happened to a secular state? I mean the state constitution of California guarantees everybody the same freedoms, free from religious inteference supposedly, yet here is another example of church and state blurring together. These people just need to be put all together in one place, possibly Utah, and told to run that how they like. Now that’s my kind of segregation. If you think intolerance of intolerance is hypocritical you can go join them.

So these are the guys we are meant to derive all our morals from? Right? To be honest I think that religion is proabably the worst place to get your morals from.

Sure there are the ten commandments. A retarded monkey could come up some of those though. Half of them are just jealous statements. “Don’t you DARE praise that other God. He is such a biiiiiiiitch to me!” Well, something like that. The bible is also full of other wonderful morality tales, like the one about Abraham almost burning his child alive, or Lot offering his daughter to be raped. Don’t forget shrimp is bad. Oh i know some religious people will say, “well some of things are archaic, you know, we do the main things etc.” So that means you can pick and choose what to follow? So the whole thing about homosexuality being evil in Leviticus, you took that as correct, but not offering up your daughter like she’s worth an ounce of humanity? 

There isn’t an instruction manual that come with the bible pointing out which bits are the truth and which bits are insane ramblings brought on by desert fever. To me, it’s all one big book of Jewish fairy tales.

Oh yah, then there’s, “Joe the Plumber.” The archetypal white working-man that McCain has trumpted as his new mascot. The guy asked Obama if he bought the plumbing business he worked for, would Obama raise his taxes. Obama explained to him that only if he made over $250,000, only the portion of income over that amount, and would cut costs for him elsewhere. McCain used Joe in the debate as his main talking point, now Joe the Plumber is national news, paraded around as the face of McCain campaign. The truth is that Joe isn’t a plumber, or named Joe, or even going to earn close to $250,000. His name is Samuel and couldn’t afford to buy the plumbing business anyway. Yet McCain yells “What about Joe the Plumber?” 

“Joe the Plumber,” will be better off under Obama’s tax plan. Yet “Joe,” is also a bit racist, and hasn’t even paid his taxes in a while. Another useless distraction by McCain.

STUPID NEWS

So apparently Ohio is confused about who sex offender laws are supposed to protect. A 15 year old girl sent nude pictures of herself to her friends, using one of those camera phones that parents really shouldn’t give their kids. Now she has been arrested, facing child pornography charges AND the possibility of being placed on the sex offenders register. Obviously this girl needs to be disciplined, but surely by her parents? Why is the state invoking laws that prevent adults exploiting children against a child?? It isn’t logical and it doesn’t solve anything. The girl is a foster child so she probably isn’t quite right anyway.

Another point to take into account is that while she was nude, she wasn’t doing anything particularly explicit, so it’s not even pornography. The problem is that child pornography laws are outdated and unable to deal with situatiuons like these, where children have access to technology and can quickly take and send such pictures.

So instead of them protecting children, its actually harming them. Plus signing the sex register for 20 years isn’t going to give her the best start in life. They even re-wrote the Ohio Megans law to make sure juveniles could be prosecuted too! To supposedly counter-act the immoral behaviour starting to permeate society. Yet again another example of draconian laws hurting everybody.

I actually blame the school she goes to. It’s called “Licking Valley High.” Go figure,

I don’t know if you’ve noticed this but I certainly have, there’s an awful lot of hate happening in the U.S. Obama is surging ahead in the polls thanks to the financial crisis, Palin’s stupidity and McCains erratic, but no doubt maverick like, behaviour. The dismal run of the McCain campaign seems to be pissiing off a few people. With McCain and Palin as the ringmasters, they seem to be stoking an angry fire that might develop into bloodshed.

The Republican candidates are trying to paint Obama as a terrorist sympathiser, outsider, political insider, dangerous, risky, evil etc. They are clearly trying to divert the attention away from the economy that’s falling on its ass. In doing this though they are inciting a riot.

McCain asked, “who is the real Barack Obama.” From the crowd came, ‘TERRORIST.” Instead of McCain saying, “whoah! Let’s stick to his economic policy,” he say’s nothing. His inaction therefore condones what was said. Which proves that McCain wants the redneck masses to be angry, and predjudice. The whole terrorist idea plays on Barack being a supposed muslim. I personally wouldn’t care if he was, as long as he still held the same liberal ideas that he does now. It’s very irresponsible of the McCain campaign to build up this hate and animosity. You could end up with the 60′s again.

The republicans need to just let go, but you know they won’t. They have contingencies in place that will make sure scores of votes won’t be counted in key battleground states, just like Florida 2000, and Ohio 2004. The story on Ohio isn’t as well know but will make you mad trust me,visit here for that one
